Otra cosa voy a decirte y sobre ella prestaré un gran juramento: Sí, por este cetro que ya no producirá hojas ni ramos, pues dejó el tronco en la montaña; ni reverdecerá, porque el bronce lo despojó de las hojas y de la corteza, y ahora lo empuñan los aqueos que administran justicia y guardan las leyes de Zeus (grande será para ti este juramento): algún día los aqueos todos echarán de menos a Aquiles, y tú, aunque te aflijas, no podrás socorrerlos cuando muchos sucumban y perezcan a manos de Héctor, matador de hombres.
