Diese Art wird vorwiegend in E-Gitarren-Modelle mit Hohlkorpus wie der Gibson ES-330 eingebaut, aber auch in Solidbody-Gitarren wie der Gibson Les Paul Junior. Dieselben Pickups werden auch auf Gitarren der Marke Epiphone eingebaut, dies jedoch erst seitdem Gibson 1957 die Firma Epiphone aufgekauft hatte. Auf den Gitarren dieser Marke sieht man P-90-Tonabnehmer vor allem auf dem Modell Epiphone Casino (eine Kopie von Gibsons Modell ES-330).

Dog-ear P-90 pickups were commonly mounted on Gibson's hollowbody guitars like the ES-330 and occasionally on solid body models like the Les Paul Junior. The same pickups were also available on Epiphone models (since Gibson was building Epiphone guitars in the 1950s) and the design is best remembered for its appearance on the hollow body Epiphone Casino of the mid to late 1960s.
