In the years of the booming blogosphere the term became important and useful to describe the emerging new content structures that were enabled by new technologies (like trackbacks, pings and increasingly RSS), new types of CMS-software and -interfaces (like blogs and wikis), and not least by new socio-cultural practices (people creating, bringing into circulation and re-using/re-mixing microchunks of content).

En los años del auge de la blogosfera, el término "Microcontenido" llegó a ser importante y útil para describir las nuevas estructuras emergentes de contenido que fueron habilitadas por las nuevas tecnologías (como trackbacks, pings y cada vez más RSS), nuevos tipos de software CMS y aplicaciones (como blogs y wikis ), y no menos importante por las nuevas prácticas socioculturales (creación colectiva, puesta en circulación y reutilización / re-mezcla de microtrozos de contenido).
