Nach dem institutionellen Fiasko von Amsterdam ist es inakzeptabel, daß das Europäische Parlament sich nicht mit aller Gewalt für eine solche Reform, die noch vor der Erweiterung zustandekommen muß, einsetzt, da wir mangels einer Reform nicht nur Gefahr laufen, die Erweiterung zu verzögern, sondern außerdem die Funktionsweise und das Überleben der Europäischen Union selbst gefährden.

Μετά την αποτυχία σε θεσμικό επίπεδο που σηματοδοτεί το Αμστερνταμ, είναι απαράδεκτο το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο να μην ασκεί κάθε δυνατή πίεση υπέρ της μεταρρύθμισης αυτής πριν από κάθε διεύρυνση, χωρίς την οποία υπάρχει ο κίνδυνος, όχι μόνο να επιβραδυνθεί η διεύρυνση, αλλά και να διακυβευτεί η λειτουργία και η ύπαρξη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.

After the institutional fiasco of Amsterdam, it is quite unacceptable for the European Parliament not to pitch with all its weight into such a reform, prior to any enlargement. Failure to do so would mean that we risk not only delaying enlargement, but also imperilling the operation and survival of the European Union itself.
