India was a world leader in smart-phone Internet use, and government programmes such as “Digital India” would provide access to over 250 million Hindi speakers and more than 50 million speakers for each of the other major Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Punjabi — with the latter two also spoken by 160 million people in Bangladesh and 120 million in Pakistan, respectively.
