These were the Kingdoms of the Funj in the area of Gezirah and the Fur in Darfur and the Kingdom of Taqali and the Musabba’at in Kordofan,7 and perhaps the Fur Kingdom, which was founded by Suleiman Solong in the seventeenth century and in 1874 was defeated by Al-Zubair Pasha at the battle of Munwashi.
