Under article 235 of the Criminal Code, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, namely the illegal exertion of mental or physical pressure on a suspect, accused person, witness, victim or other party to criminal proceedings, or on a convict serving sentence, or on close relatives of the above by a person carrying out an initial inquiry or pre-trial investigation, a procurator or other employee of a law- or sentence-enforcement agency, and the use of threats, blows, beatings, cruel treatment, victimization, infliction of suffering or other illegal acts in order to obtain from them information of any kind or a confession, or to punish them arbitrarily for action they have taken, or to coerce them into action of any kind, incur liability and are punishable with three years' correctional labour or deprivation of liberty.

El artículo 235 del Código Penal se establece la responsabilidad por el uso de la tortura y otros tratos o penas crueles, inhumanos o degradantes, es decir los actos ilícitos de presión física o psicológica sobre un sospechoso, acusado, testigo, víctima u otra persona que sea parte en un proceso judicial o un reo que cumple condena y sus familiares cercanos mediante amenazas, golpizas, pateaduras, tormento u otros actos ilícitos por parte del oficial investigador, el fiscal u otro funcionario de un órgano encargado de hacer cumplir la ley o de un establecimiento penitenciario a fin de obtener información de cualquier índole o una confesión, castigar arbitrariamente a esa persona por su conducta u obligarla a que realice alguna actividad, será castigado en la forma de trabajos correctivos por un período de tres años o con una pena de hasta tres años de privación de libertad.
