L'observatori va detectar "repetits centellejos brillants de llum en escales de temps més curt d'una hora, cosa poques vegades vist en altres sistemes de forat negre, sent durant aquests centellejos, l'objecte més brillant del cel de raigs X, fins a cinquanta vegades més brillant que la Nebulosa del Cranc" segons paraules de Erik Kuulkers, científic del projecte INTEGRAL de l'ESA.

INTEGRAL was detecting "repeated bright flashes of light time scales shorter than an hour, something rarely seen in other black hole systems", and during these flashes V404 Cygni was the brightest object in the X-ray sky - up to fifty times brighter than the Crab Nebula.
