Bis es im September 2019 abgeschlossen wird, möchten die Projektpartner drei zentrale Ziele erreichen: die Wirkung des Zika-Virus während der Schwangerschaft sowie die kurz- und mittelfristigen Auswirkungen auf Neugeborene verstehen; den natürlichen Verlauf einer Zika-Infektion beim Menschen nachverfolgen und dokumentieren sowie die Umgebung des Virus hinsichtlich anderer zirkulierender Arboviren untersuchen; und die Gesamtkapazität zur vorbeugenden Erforschung in Zusammenarbeit mit den Projekten ZIKAction und ZikaPLAN ausbauen, um in Zukunft drohende Epidemien in Lateinamerika und der Karibik zu verhindern.

Running until September 2019, it has three key objectives: understanding the impact of Zika virus infection during pregnancy and identifying short and medium term effects on newborns; tracking and documenting the natural history of Zika virus infection in humans and their environment in the context of other circulating arboviruses; and building the overall capacity for preparedness research for future epidemic threats in Latin America and the Caribbean in collaboration with the ZIKAction and ZikaPLAN projects.

Wyznaczone zostały trzy kluczowe cele: poznanie oddziaływania infekcji wirusem Zika w okresie ciąży oraz krótko- i średnioterminowych skutków u noworodków; zbadanie i udokumentowanie naturalnej historii zakażeń wirusem Zika wśród ludzi oraz ich środowiska w kontekście innych krążących arbowirusów; budowanie ogólnego potencjału współpracy badawczej w zakresie gotowości na wypadek przyszłych zagrożeń epidemiologicznych w Ameryce Łacińskiej i na Karaibach, we współpracy z projektami ZIKAction i ZikaPLAN.
