The novel is properly divided into seven books: on matrimony, religion, prelation, the apostolic testament, the hermetic life, the book of the lover and the beloved, and the art of contemplation. In them, using dialogue and the insertion of exemplary anecdotes by the action's heroes, the narrative and didactic elements of the novel are connected and cohere, according to the confessional and aesthetic aims that Llull seeks.
