The ‘Corridor 8 Secretariat’, based in Bari, which was set up in 2004 to assist the Member States in identifying and developing infrastructure projects along the Corridor and in defining the relevant financial arrangements, has now been inactive for some months. The development of the TEN networks, in this case the Apulia-Balkans axis, will provide a boost for the Mediterranean economy. There are plans to widen and modernise the Naples-Bari motorway, which may strengthen and enhance exchanges — not only trade — between Italy and the countries of eastern Europe.

Considerando che il Segretariato del Corridoio 8, istituito nel 2004 per supportare gli Stati membri nella identificazione e nello sviluppo dei progetti di infrastrutture lungo il Corridoio e nella definizione del relativo montaggio finanziario, con sede a Bari, è oramai inattivo da diversi mesi, considerando che lo sviluppo delle reti TEN e nello specifico dell'asse Puglia — Balcani rappresenterà un vero volano per l'economia del Mediterraneo, considerando che é in programma l'ampliamento e l'ammodernamento dell'autostrada Napoli — Bari che quindi potrà dare maggior vigore ed importanza agli scambi, non solo commerciali, tra Italia e paesi dell'est europeo, si interroga la Commissione per sapere:

Overwegende dat het secretariaat van corridor 8, dat is opgezet in 2004 om de lidstaten te ondersteunen bij het identificeren en ontwikkelen van infrastructurele projecten langs deze corridor en bij het vaststellen van de daarmee gemoeide financiën, en dat gevestigd is in Bari, al enkele maanden niet-actief is, overwegende dat de ontwikkeling van TEN-netwerken en in het bijzonder de as Apulië-Balkan een speerpunt kan betekenen voor de economie van het Middellandse Zeegebied, overwegende dat uitbreiding en modernisering gepland is van de autostrada Napels-Bari die daarmee een grotere impuls en belang kan geven aan het (handels)verkeer tussen Italië en de landen van Oost‐Europa, luidt de vraag aan de Commissie:
