The Committee was of the opinion that in this instance the exclusion of women from 85-90 per cent of the jobs in the police and fire brigade - on grounds that they have not the necessary physical strength and endurance - demonstrates an absence of an in-depth examination of each case on the basis of the individual capacities of applicants and reflects archaic and stereotyped concepts with regard to respective roles and abilities of men and women.

La Comisión opinó que, en este caso, la exclusión de la mujer del 85% al 90% de los puestos en la policía y los bomberos —fundada en que no tienen la suficiente fuerza y resistencia física— demuestra la falta de un examen a fondo de cada caso sobre la base de la capacidad individual de los solicitantes, y refleja conceptos arcaicos y estereotipados con respecto a los respectivos roles y habilidades de hombres y mujeres.
