The disclosed embodiment relates to a terminal having improved security and a method for releasing a locking state of the terminal, and the present invention can provide the terminal comprising: an input unit for receiving a drag; a storage unit for storing a password pattern; a control unit which compares the received drag with the password pattern, and which releases a locking state of the terminal according to the comparison result; and an output unit for displaying at least a part of a user interface including at least two markers arranged in a grid, wherein the user interface includes a first marker and a second marker, and the password pattern includes a movement from the first marker to the second marker and a movement from the second marker to the first marker.
