On the basis of new data, however, it was found that this young seal had no connection with M. monachus, but was an accidental visitor, a pinniped belonging to the Arctic seals of the genus Cystophora (Nilson, 1820) and to the species known as the hooded seal, Cystophora cristata (Erxleben, 1777).

Según revela un análisis detallado de los datos, se pudo ver que este animal no tiene conexión alguna con M. monachus, tratándose de un animal divagante, perteneciente al género Cystophora (Nilson, 1820) de focas del Ártico, y a la especie conocida como foca de casco, Cystophora cristata (Erxleben, 1777).
