Schwerpunkte der intraoperativen Endoskopie sind: Diagnostik von Blutungen aus Angiodysplasien des Dünn- and Dickdarmes, die Suche nach Fremdkörpern, Perforationen and Polypen im Gastrointestinaltrakt, soweit preoperative Untersuchungen nicht möglich oder ausreichend waren, Bougierung peptischer Oesophagusstenosen im Rahmen einer Antireflux-Operation, endoskopische Tubusimplantation bei maligner Oesophagus- oder Kardiastenose, wenn die explorative Laparotomie die Inoperabilität des Tumors erbringt.

Further indications are localization of foreign bodies, perforation, and of polypoid lesions when preoperative diagnostic procedures have not been carried out or have failed. Endoscopic dilatation of benign peptic stenosis during an antireflux operation and endoscopic intubation of the esophagus and gastric cardia because of incurable cancer are the predominant advantages of endoscopic procedures during laparotomy.
