”إن الاحتفال بهذه الذكرى السنوية المائتين لا يتيح لنا فحسب فرصة لنقول إن تجارة الرق كانت عارا كبيرا - كيف ندين وجودها إدانة شديدة وكيف نشيد بأولئك الذين ناضلوا من أجل إلغائها - ولكن أيضا لنعرب عن بالغ أسفنا على حدوثها أصلا، بل حتى على إمكانية حدوثها، وننعم بما نعيشه من ظروف أفضل اليوم“.
