এমনকি হাসপাতালে ভূমিষ্ট হলেও সঙ্গে সঙ্গে শাল দুধ খাওয়ানো হয় না শিশুর স্তন চুষবার অক্ষমতা অথবা মার দুর্বলতা বা অক্ষমতার কারণে। মা শারীরিকভাবে সুস্থ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত অথবা শিশু নিজেই মায়ের বুক থেকে চুষে দুধপান করার সামর্থ্য অর্জন না করা পর্যন্ত তাকে সাধারণত পানি অথবা পানিতে চিনি মিশিয়ে পান করানো হয়।

Even if the birth occurs in hospital and the initiation is not immediate (due to inability of the child to suckle or due to weakness or inability of mother), plain water or sugarcube diluted with water is given to the new-born until the mother is physically fit to feed the baby or it is strong enough to suckle the nipple.
