The buzz of whispered conversation struck me first, then the clouds of smoke, the colourful clothing worn by the huddled little groups of visitors who hung over the tables in the open boxes whispering and muttering, the black mass of screws pacing up and down the floor hanging over their shoulders cracking jokes amongst themselves and filling the air with their loud-mouthed laughter.

la première chose qui me frappa fut le ronronnement de conversations chuchotées. Ensuite, la masse noire des matons faisant le va-et-vient, écoutant une conversation ici et là, se lançant des blagues entre eux et remplissant lair de leurs rires braillards.

Najpierw doszedł mnie szmer szeptanych rozmów, później gęsty dym i kolorowe ubrania gości, którzy stłoczeni w małych grupkach nachylali się nad stołami w otwartych boksach, szepcząc i opowiadając. Wokół czarna grupa klawiszów, łażących tam i z powrotem, nachylających się nad przybyłymi, opowiadających sobie kawały i wypełniających pomieszczenie grubiańskim śmiechem.
