وهذه القاعدة لا تطبق بحذافيرها في الممارسة لأن الكثيرين من الآباء لا يفون بشكل مسؤول بالتزاماتهم الاقتصادية، ولا يشاركون في تربية ورعاية وتنشئة البنت أو الابن؛ وكثيرا ما يُستخدم هذا الحق لابتزاز الأم، والحدّ من حريتها في الحركة، وتعطيل استفادتها من فرص الدراسة والعمل

In practice, this regulation is not fully complied with, however, as many fathers do not assume their financial obligations in a responsible manner, and fail to share in the education, care, and raising of the child. In many cases, moreover, the right is used to blackmail the mother, to limit her freedom of movement, and to block her access to opportunities to study and work
