واعتمدت جمعية المنظمة البحرية الدولية أيضا مدونة بشأن التنبيهات والمؤشرات، يتمثل القصد منها في توفير توجيهات عامة بشأن تصميم السفن وتشجيع توحيد أنواع وأماكن وأولويات التنبيهات والمؤشرات المطلوبة بموجب الاتفاقية الدولية لحماية الأرواح في البحر، والاتفاقية الدولية لمنع التلوث الناجم عن السفن، لعام 1973، بصيغتها المعدلة ببروتوكول عام 1978 الملحق بها، وغيرها من الصكوك الدولية ذات الصلة( ).

The IMO Assembly also adopted a code on alerts and indicators, which is intended to provide general design guidance and to promote uniformity of type, location and priority for alerts and indicators required under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (MARPOL 73/78), and other associated international instruments.
