Krátká zpráva v časopisu The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene uvádí, že ve výzkumné studii prováděné na pacientech s tetanem měl test špachtlí vysokou specificitu (žádné falešně pozitivní výsledky) a vysokou senzitivitu (94% infikovaných pacientů mělo výsledek testu pozitivní).
