Aquesta abadia fou la quarta de les quatre grans filles de l'Abadia de Cîteaux, aquestes quatre foren de gran importància per a l'expansió de l'Orde del Cister, establint-se La Ferté al sud, Pontigny a l'oest, i Claravall al nord.

It was the fourth of the four great daughter abbeys of Cîteaux Abbey, of primary importance in the spread of the Cistercian Order, along with La Ferté to the south, Pontigny to the west and Clairvaux to the north.
