In the case of older patients living alone where neither an emergency card nor a relative is present, an emergency sponsorship (Notfallpatenschaft) should be suggested by the emergency staff: anyone out of the social environment of an older patient, who is present in the emergency situation, could support – only by giving the telephone number or address – a rapid and efficient clinical management and, therefore, promote the patient's convalescence and rehabilitation.
