The consequences of March 18, 1848, freed both Italy and Germany from this disgrace; if from 1848 to 1871 these two great nations were reconstituted and somehow again put on their own, it was as Karl Marx used to say, because the men who suppressed the Revolution of 1848 were, nevertheless, its testamentary executors in spite of themselves.

Entre 1848 y 1871 las dos grandes naciones quedaron restablecidas y, de uno u otro modo, recobraron su independencia, y este hecho, como decía Carlos Marx, se debió a que los mismos personajes que aplastaron la revolución de 1848 fueron, a pesar suyo, sus albaceas testamentarios[29].
