The efficacy of the treatments was estimated from the combined results of two randomised, double-blind clinical trials in which tigecycline (100 mg initially, followed by 50 mg IV every 12 hours) and vancomycin plus aztreonam (1000/2000 mg IV every 12 hours) administered for up to a maximum of 14 days (538 and 519 patients treated with tigecycline and vancomycin plus aztreonam respectively, in the modified intention-to-treat analysis population).
