The optical power monitoring device (50) includes an optical detector (52) arranged on a surface of an optical fiber (40) which receives excitation light output from a short pulse light source (20) and which can cause a non-linear optical effect, said optical detector (52) being arranged on a side surface of the optical fiber (40) other than a connection portion.

光パワー監視装置50は、短パルス光源20から出力される励起光が入射される非線形光学効果を引き起こしうる光ファイバ40の接続部以外の側面に配置される光検出器52を含み、光ファイバ40に励起光が入射されることで、光ファイバ40の非線形光学効果によって励起光とは異なる波長のSC光が発生し、光ファイバ40の接続部以外の側面から放射される励起光およびSC光の一部である漏洩光の光量を測定することにより、短パルス光源20から出力される励起光の光量を測定する。
