In May 2008, Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court sentenced Kaboudvand to 10 years in prison for "acting against national security by establishing the Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan, widespread propaganda against the system by disseminating news, opposing Islamic penal laws by publicizing punishments such as stoning and executions, and advocating on behalf of political prisoners."

شعبه 15 دادگاه انقلاب در مه 2008 کبودوند را به دهسال زندان محکوم کرد. جرم او "اقدام علیه امنیت ملی از طریق تاسیس سازمان حقوق بشر کردستان، تبلیغ علیه نظام از طریق اشاعه اخبار، مخالفت با قوانین جزایی اسلام از طریق علنی کردن احکامی همچون سنگسار و اعدام و نیز حمایت از زندانیان سیاسی" اعلام شد.
