In spring the old leaf pair parts to reveal the new leaves and the old leaves will then dry up. "Lithops" leaves may shrink and disappear below ground level during drought. Lithops in habitat almost never have more than one leaf pair per head, presumably as an adaptation to the arid environment.

แต่ที่จริงน่าจะเรียกว่ามีต้นเล็ก 2 ต้นอยู่ภายในร่องมากกว่า ใบใหม่จะค่อยๆเจริญออกมาให้เห็นในช่วงฤดูใบไม้ผลิ ใบใหม่ที่งอกออกมาจะมีลักษณะเป็นคู่เหมือนใบเก่า และใบเก่าที่มีอยู่จะค่อยๆเหี่ยวไป ซึ่งในช่วงเวลานี้ควรงดให้น้ําแก่ "Lithops" เพราะใบเก่าที่กําลังเสื่อมสภาพลงจะง่ายต่อการเข้าทําลายของเชื้อรา จนทําให้เกิดการเน่าของ "Lithops" ได้ง่าย "Lithops" ส่วนใหญ่มักฝังตัวเองอยู่ในพื้นหรือวัสดุที่ใช้ปลูก และเหลือเพียงส่วนบนของใบที่โผล่ขึ้นมาเท่านั้น
