A wide high pressure of middle latitude air mass was forming and its centers were in three directions around Finland; the very sparse pressure field meant very weak winds and occasionally calm, which made possible the stratus clouds to appear also in the rather cold polaric air mass and especially in the evening as the milder and more humid air mass was slowly arriving.

Laaja keskileveysasteiden ilmamassan korkeapaine oli muotoutumassa ja sen keskuksia oli kolmessa suunnassa Suomen ympärillä; hyvin harva painekenttä tarkoitti hyvin heikkoja tuulia ja ajoittain tyyntä, joka mahdollisti sumupilvien esiintymisen myös kylmähkössä polaari-ilmamassassa ja etenkin illalla myös rintamapilvisyyden asettuessa paikalleen.
