However, some supporting factors show that oil prices will not continue their ascent far from current level owing to the following factors: (1) A slowdown of the Chinese, US and Asian economies in the latter half of 2006. (2) The improvement of various countries in energy saving and alternative energy development which help ease price pressure.

สํานักงานคณะกรรมการพัฒนาการเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งชาติ 10 เช่น ความตึงเครียดระหว่างชาติตะวันตกและอิหร่านเรื่องนโยบายนิวเคลียร์ และสถานการณ์ความไม่สงบในประเทศไนจีเรียที่มีแนวโน้มว่าจะยืดเยื้อต่อไป และ (4) การเก็งกําไรของกองทุนประกันความเสี่ยงต่าง ๆ ภายใต้โครงสร้างด้านความต้องการและเงื่อนไขด้านการผลิตที่มีความผันผวน จะยังเป็นปัจจัยสําคัญที่ทําให้ราคาน้ํามันมีความเคลื่อนไหวในช่วงกว้างได้ แต่อย่างไรก็ตามมีปัจจัยที่ชี้ว่าราคาน้ํามันอาจจะไม่เพิ่มขึ้นจากระดับปัจจุบันมากด้วยเหตุผล ดังนี้ (1) ภาวะเศรษฐกิจจีน สหรัฐฯ และเอเชีย มีแนวโน้มชะลอตัวในครึ่งหลัง ในขณะราคาน้ํามันได้เพิ่มขึ้นต่อเนื่องและทรงตัวในระดับสูงมากแล้ว
