The rights of the citizens to participate in public life, in the Government, to vote, etc., is set forth in article 57 of the Constitution, which provides as follows: “The members of the National Assembly shall be elected directly by the inhabitants, having the Surinamese nationality, and having reached the age of eighteen years.”
