A process for the recovery of lead from spent batteries paste, containing lead sulphate, lead dioxide and lead oxide, comprising the steps of: calcining a blend of the spent paste containing PbSO¿4?, PbO¿2?, an alkali carbonate and elemental sulphur at a temperature up to 600 °C for transforming the lead constituents into PbO and converting the alkali carbonate into an alkali sulfate; leaching the calcinated blend with water to dissolve the alkali sulphate and drying the slurry to obtain a rough lead oxide, and: dissolving the rough lead oxide in an electrowinning cell containing a molten electrolyte obtaining a molten lead.

Ce procédé consiste à calciner un mélange de la pâte usée contenant du PbSO¿4?, PbO¿2?, un carbonate alcalin et un soufre élémentaire à une température pouvant atteindre 600 °C pour transformer les constituants de plomb en PbO et transformer le carbonate alcalin en un sulfate alcalin.
