Neben der „Allgemeinen Projektförderung“ – die auch für Anträge aus dem Ausland offen steht – entwickelt die Kulturstiftung des Bundes Projekte vor allem im Rahmen ihrer Themenschwerpunkte „Kunst und Stadt“, „Kulturelle Aspekte der deutschen Einigung“, „Die kulturelle Herausforderung des 11. September“, „Migration“ – schließlich den Schwerpunkt „Mittel- und Osteuropa“, zu dem auch das Programm „Büro Kopernikus“ gehört.
