Article 48 of Supreme Decree No. 023-2005-SA, which approves the regulations that govern the organization and operations of the Ministry of Health, designates the Directorate-General of Environmental Health (DIGESA) as the specialized regulatory agency for overseeing matters relating to basic sanitation, occupational health, food hygiene, zoonotic diseases and environmental protection.

Conforme lo establece el artículo 48 del Decreto Supremo N.o 023-2005-SA que aprueba el Reglamento de Organización Funciones del Ministerio de Salud, se establece que la Dirección General de Salud Ambiental (DIGESA) es el órgano técnico normativo en los aspectos relacionados al saneamiento básico, salud ocupacional, higiene alimentaria, zoonosis y protección del ambiente.
