The catalytic converter (4) is warmed up as follows: after the internal combustion engine (2) is started up, the ECU (5) drives the electric motor (1m) to forcibly rotate the turbine (1t), switches the variable nozzle (1n) to an open state, and increases the amount of the fuel supplied to the internal combustion engine (2).

触媒コンバータの暖機方法を実施する暖機システムは、ターボチャージャ(1)のタービン(1t)を通過する排ガスの流量に依存することなく、内燃機関(2)に供給される空気の流量をターボチャージャ(1)により増加させる電動モータ(1m)と、タービン(1t)を通過する排ガスの流れを調整する可変ノズル(1n)と、電動モータ(1m)及び可変ノズル(1n)の作動、並びに、内燃機関(2)に供給される燃料量を制御するECU(5)を有し、内燃機関(2)の始動後、ECU(5)は、電動モータ(1m)を駆動してタービン(1t)を強制的に回転させるとともに可変ノズル(1n)を開状態に切換え、一方、内燃機関(2)に供給される燃料を増加させることにより、触媒コンバータ(4)の暖機を実施する。
