On the one hand, it completely ignored the fact, lost in the torrent of paragraphs couched in emotive terms, that terrorism is the main threat to human rights today. On the other, the report failed clearly to condemn the French legislation on religious symbols, which is the most disturbing recent sign of discrimination and threatens religious freedom.

Da un lato essa ignora completamente il fatto – sommerso da un torrente di paragrafi pregni di emotività – che il terrorismo è oggi la più grave minaccia ai diritti umani; dall’altro, essa omette di condannare chiaramente la legislazione francese sui simboli religiosi, che costituisce il più recente e inquietante segnale di discriminazione e minaccia la libertà di religione.
