Η πόλη αναφέρθηκε για πρώτη φορά το 1408 όταν ο πρίγκιπας Αλέξανδρος ο καλός της Μολδαβίας (1400-1432) απαρίθμησε τα τελωνειακά σημεία στο πριγκιπάτο με προνόμια για τους Πολωνούς εμπόρους.
