The classic sign of early local infection with Lyme disease is a circular, outwardly expanding rash called erythema chronicum migrans (EM), which occurs at the site of the tick bite three to 32 days after the tick bite.[1] The rash is red, and may be warm, but is generally painless.

Quand l'infection n'est pas totalement asymptomatique, le signe le plus classique et précoce d'un début d'infection est une éruption inflammatoire cutanée (érythème), qui apparaît de 3 à 32 jours après la morsure d'une tique, et qui prend la forme d'une tache circulaire à ovale, rougeâtre de 1 ou 2 cm (grandissant parfois ensuite jusqu'à plus de 10 cm de diamètre).
