In the 2006 elections, only 176 of the 2,498 women candidates (including 2 candidates for the office of President of the Republic, 26 for state government office, 35 for Senate seats, 652 for seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 1,783 for seats in the state and Federal District legislative assemblies) were elected.
