Tadatsugu enjoyed great confidence of Ieyasu , and when he was inquired by Nobunaga ODA about Nobuyasu MATSUDAIRA , a legitimate child of Ieyasu , in 1579 , Tadatsugu was designated as an envoy for defense and went to Azuchi Castle together with Tadayo OKUBO , but he was not able to defend Nobuyasu well enough and thus failed to prevent the order for Nobuyasu 's seppuku ( suicide by disembowelment ) from being given ( though there is a different view on the claim that the incident of Nobuyasu 's seppuku was under the order of Nobunaga ) .

家康 の 厚 い 信任 を 受け て い た 忠次 で は あ っ た が 、 天正 7 年 ( 1579 年 ) に 家康 の 嫡子 ・ 松平 信康 の 件 で 織田 信長 から の 詰問 を 受け た とき 、 大久保 忠世 と とも に 弁解 の 使者 に 立て られ て 安土 城 に 赴 い た もの の 、 信康 を 十分 に 弁護 せ ず 信康 切腹 の 命令 を 防げ な かっ た ( ただし 、 信康 切腹 事件 が 信長 の 命令 に よ る と い う 件 は 、 異説 も 存在 する ) 。
