While much remains to be done to improve the living conditions of the most economically disadvantaged segment of the population, as well as to combat poverty, we can see that literacy and adult education efforts in Cape Verde have borne fruit, both qualitatively and quantitatively, especially with regard to women, who make up the social group that is most affected by illiteracy.
