In 1972, with the intent to strengthen ties between the USA and Mexico and to honor the memory of the only player ever to win the US Championships and the Mexican Open championships in singles, the "Osuna Cup" event was instituted.

En 1972 con la finalidad de estrechar los lazos de amistad y colaboración entre estos dos países y honrar la memoria del único tenista en ganar el US Open y el Campeonato Nacional de México en singles, se establece la “Copa Osuna” la cual es disputada anualmente entre los equipos representativos de los E.U.A. y México.
