On the other hand, statistically significant differences in antibody production were not detected between immunized and control groups, and the observed response inside this group may be due to previous exposure of Atlantic salmon to microorganisms that share antigenic structures with P. salmonis, which was shown by the crossreactivity of the assessed sera with Arthrobacter sp. and Flavobacterium psychrophilum in the agglutination assay. Under the conditions of this study, the free bacterin based formulation showed a tendency to diminish the innate and acquired immune responses, suggesting an immunosuppressive effect of P. salmonis on Atlantic salmon. In vitro stimulation of salmon leucocytes didn’t show significant differences between treatments with immune complexes or bacterin alone.
