The tau protein is known to be one of the inducers of Alzheimer's disease. An accumulated amount of the protein in the brain is usually detected by an expensive scan. Researchers found that the amount of tau protein in the blood correlates to the amount accumulated in the brain and that the blood concentrations of tau and another inducing substance, Amyloid beta, are also closely linked to the protein level in the brain and the disease progress.

이때 진단법으로 알츠하이머병의 원인 중 하나인 타우 단백질의 뇌 축적 여부를 검사하는 방법이 사용됩니다. 묵 교수 연구팀은 실험 결과 혈중 타우 단백질 농도가 높을수록 뇌에 타우 단백질이 많이 축적돼 있는 것을 발견했다고 전했습니다. 해당 기술이 실용화되면 간단한 혈액 검사로 알츠하이머병의 진행 정도를 보다 정확히 예측 가능할 수 있다는 게 연구진의 설명입니다.
