Grâce à l'utilisation du télescope spatial CoRoT (Convection, Rotation and Transits) exploité par le CNES, l'Agence spatiale française, des astrophysiciens du Royaume-Uni et de France ont pu observer les planètes qui se trouvent en dehors de notre système solaire, baptisées «exoplanètes», lorsqu'elles étaient en transit, à savoir lorsqu'elles passaient devant leurs étoiles.
