Connu sous la désignation d'« Interim Field Army Air Defense Study » (IFAADS), il faisait appel à un système en plusieurs parties, consistant en un missile Sidewinder modifié, désigné MIM-72 Chaparral, un canon de défense rapprochée utilisant un M61 Vulcan, dénommé M163 VADS, et un radar de veille et d'alerte AN/MPQ-49, qui apporterait son soutien aux deux véhicules en leur envoyant ses informations sur leurs écrans de contrôle.
