The Ministry of Labour & Employment provides health care facilities to certain categories of workers and their dependents in the unorganized sector through its Hospitals and Dispensaries.
In the coming financial year, 100 veterinary sub-centres will be upgraded to Veterinary Dispensaries particularly in backward districts and 227 new buildings will be constructed at a cost of Rs.80.05 crore with NABARD assistance.
Construction of buildings, compound walls and fencing to Government Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, Sub-centres, Veterinary Dispensaries, Livestock Centres and Libraries.
Health Scheme: Health care facilities are provided to the workers and their dependents through 12 hospitals and 286 dispensaries under Labour Welfare Organizations across the country
1 The Employees State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) of Tamil Nadu has seven Hospitals and 202 Dispensaries functioning under the overall control of the Labour and Employment Department except for limited administrative purposes of placing the personnel.
2 The Directorate has 22 Medical Colleges, a Dental College and a Super Specialty Hospital under it, in addition to the hospitals and dispensaries attached to the various Medical Colleges.

In order to monitor the various activities of Animal Husbandry Department from the Directorate through Mobile phones and to improve the administration by getting the information in short time from field Veterinary Dispensaries, the Government has sanctioned Rs.15.81 lakh to provide Mobile phones to all the Veterinary Institutions in Tiruchirapalli district on pilot basis.
The Insured Persons and their family members are admitted to the Private Hospitals as per the recommendations of the concerned ESI Dispensaries and ESI Hospitals.

The department has a total of 37,711 posts of which 290 are in the Directorate level, 11,803 in the colleges and the balance 25,618 in the tertiary care hospitals and dispensaries attached to the Medical colleges.
In Tamil Nadu, medical facilities are provided through a network of 205 ESI Dispensaries (198 Static ESI Dispensaries, five Mobile Dispensaries and two Utilisation Dispensaries and 10 ESI Hospitals (seven ESI Hospitals are under the control of the State Government and three ESI Hospitals are run direct by the ESI Corporation) with 2011 beds.
The Regional Office, Branch Office and Dispensary would be exclusively run for the benefit of insured persons and their family members covered under ESI Scheme.
