Those consultations provided an opportunity to brainstorm with the various national authorities, diplomatic partners and representatives of the United Nations system in Central Africa, on some of the main challenges to peace and security that the subregion faces, including governance issues, piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, cross-border criminality, the circulation of small arms and light weapons, youth employment, human rights and humanitarian issues, as well as the presence of armed groups, notably LRA.
