Back in the chloroplast, in the PSII array, the energy from the red portion of the sunlight has been transferred to electrons in the chlorophyll molecules until, finally, an electron is so energized, or “excited,” that it jumps from the array altogether, into the arms of a waiting carrier molecule in the thylakoid membrane.
