One of Japan's first museums dedicated to contemporary art spanning the period from the 1950s to the present, the nearly 1,000 works in the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art showcase a variety of prolific artists from around the world. The permanent collection housed in this renovated Bauhaus-style complex, a former residence of business tycoon Kunizo Hara, includes internationally recognized names like Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Jackson Pollock, an incredible installation by Yoshitomo Nara, and many more. In addition to the major works in the art collection and rotating exhibitions, the museum also hosts a lively schedule of performance art, music gigs, and lectures that all support the activities of young, up-and-coming talent. When you've had your fill of contemplating the art, stop by the museum's Cafe d'Art. Overlooking the peaceful garden courtyard, the cafe serves a seasonal menu.
